Description: Offered for sale is a great antique 18th century primitive wooden mortar and pestle. The mortar is very large and heavy weighing in at 5 lbs 7.2 oz. It appears to have been hand carved and has acquired a wonderful patina from age and use. The rim is worn from use. There are some shrinkage cracks that appear to have been repaired at some point. There also appears to be signs of some scorching. The mortar has 2 hand wrought iron bands adding further stability. The rivets are marked with an "R" in a circle indicating newer age. The mortar measures 8 inches tall. The top and diameter measures 6". Its pestle measures 11" long by 2" wide. Together they weight 6 1/2 lbs. The pestle has wonderful signs of use and patina.
