Description: ARTIST: Heinrich Dohm is a well-listed Danish artist, whose works have been offered at auctions multiple times and exhibited at various exhibitions, f.ex in Berlin and at Charlottenborg. Today several of his works are also on display in Danish art museums. He graduated from the Royal academy of art in Copenhagen and was taught by famous artists Otto Bache and Frants Henningsen. Heinrich Dohm embarked on several educational trips to Italy, Germany, Paris, Holland, Belgium and London. He primarily excelled in portraits, landscapes and historical scenes and gained fame for his painting of King Chr. X riding a white horse at the reunification with Southern Jutland in 1920. PAINTING: Oil on canvas. The painting is a powerful portrait of a fisherman. With his weathered face and empty gaze, he epitomizes the sturdiness of these stout men. These men and this trade were also portrayed by some of Denmark’s most famous artists, who were part of the artist’s community “Skagens-malerne”, who were active in Skagen in the northern-most part of Jutland during the late 19th century.
