Description: ARTIST: Frederik Christian Kiærskou is a well-listed Danish artist, whose works have been offered at auctions multiple times, including famous auction houses such as Bruun Rasmussen, Christie’s and Bassenge, and who exhibited at the famous Charlottenborg and in both London and Paris. He graduated from the Royal Academy of Art in Copenhagen and was a student of famous Danish artists Eckersberg and J.L. Lund. He went on study trips to Germany, Switzerland and Sweden. He was first and foremost a landscape painter and often found his motifs either in Denmark or in the Alps. In 1859 he achieved the title of professor. Note that the painting is unsigned, but the painting is so archetypical for this artist, that I dare to attribute it to him. PAINTING: Oil on canvas. The painting is a marvelous rendering of a house and a watermill situated next to a rapid river and with the impressive Alps towering in the background. The painting is wonderfully detailed and if one pays close attention, it is possible to make out tiny details in the clothes of the people, who are interacting along the mountain road. The scene of the painting is almost certainly from Tyrol or Switzerland. I’ll date the painting to somewhere between 1860-1880. Unsigned. SIZE: With frame: 37 cm/14.6" * 29 cm/11.4". Without frame: 29,5 cm/11.6" * 21,5 cm/8.5". CONDITION: The painting is in great ready-to-hang condition - no holes, tears or missing paint, although there appears to be a small well-made repair near the center of the painting. The frame has scratches and stains.
