Description: Description: FULL TITLE: Ordnance Survey Limited Edition One Inch Seventh Series Published: Ordnance Survey Limited, 1991 A boxed set of the bicentennial edition (1791-1991) of the one-inch seventh series maps of Great Britain enclosed in an archival quality presentation box, constructed on a strong wooden frame, covered in archival buchram and half bound in burgundy hide. The titles are blocked in gold leaf and the box is secured with two safety locks. This is number 33 in a limited edition of 65 sets, of which only 60 sets were offered for sale to the general public. These maps represent the final printing of the one-inch OS. The set contains 189 maps which together provide a full coverage of Great Britain. Included in the set is a brief history of the series, an index and a numbered certifaicate of authenticity signed by the Director General. The first numbered Ordnance Survey one-inch map was published in 1805 and evolved through seven distinct map series. The maps in this set therefore represent the culmination of 170 years of development in Ordnance Survey one-inch map design. The one-inch national map series was replaced in 1976 by a new 1¼ inch map series of 204 sheets, in fact this was the first metric series (1¼ inch or 2cm/1km). Therefore the one on offer was the last issue in Imperial Measurement. A very rare boxed set and rarely available for sale. Weight: 11.5 kg.
