Description: A small 5 inch wide COLORFUL porcelain ANTIQUE souvenir plate from FRONTIER DAYS CHEYENNE WYOMING. It has a very detailed picture of several COWBOYS riding BUCKING BRONCOS out on the Wyoming prairie. This is a very unique plate, ONE of the very few ORIGINAL ANTIQUES that has a picture of Cowboys on horses with a caption that refers to them as 'COWBOY'! The term Cowboy is a more modern invention that is used to describe the old western experience but there are not many antiques that glorify the actual COWBOY of the past. This is an ORIGINAL ANTIQUE souvenir plate, it was probably a souvenir from the very first Frontier Day rodeo that was ever held, in 1897. Plate reads: "Cowboy Race with Wild Bronchos / Frontier Day, Cheyenne, Wyo." Note how Bronchos is spelled ... Backside reads: "MAD_ _ _ / GERMANY", the MAD is a weak print of 'MADE IN'. The Made in Germany maker's mark is what antique dealer's look for to authenticate early souvenir china pieces like this as being truly antique. Condition: Plate is in SUPER CLEAN near perfect condition. It has NO cracks, chips, dings, damage, etc. See pictures for best idea of overall appearance/condition. The first one was held in 1897 and this is probably what this plate was made for. The colorful picture on this little dish is phenomenal, very realistic, and was probably taken from a photograph and transferred onto this plate, a process called 'transfer ware'. Old souvenir China pieces like this are always popular as 1) they have the scene and place on them that they are souvenirs of (Cheyenne Wyoming Frontier Day rodeo, in this case), 2) they have colorful scenes, pictures, designs, logos on them. 3) you can date them based upon the maker's mark on the piece.
