Description: Perfectly fitted for a pair of reading spectacles, c. 1840-70s, this gold-embossed leather spectacles or reading glasses case is a wonderful bit of the past and presents so beautifully today, you'll want to own it for your specs, display it atop a small stack of antique leather-bound books, perhaps, on a side table by your favorite reading chair. The beadwork is fabulous, worked in the same way as needlepoint, one bead added in one stitch each. Very good to excellent condition for age and type. There are a couple of very small spots where the glass beads have come out, but they're simple ones to work back into the pattern for those of you who are a bit handy. If I had the time, I'd do it myself (and still might). But look it over well for those few lost beads. The leather is supple still, and with very minor scuffs of age that will cover perfectly with a simple swipe of shoe polish. We left it exactly as found, apart from cleaning the beads for you, so you can see how lovely the old leather has been preserved. Interior is also excellent. Measurements are noted on the photos, but it is 6.5" long and 2/5" wide and .75" thick when closed. One latch on front is missing, but the other holds it tightly closed. No warp or odors. Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do!
