Description: For sale is a real antique Bohemian glass gem - this is a covered cranberry glass chalice that is 8 1/8" to the tip of the lid finial, extremely high quality glass, and it is engraved on the front 'Andenken 18 Februar 1843' (translation - 'Souvenir from 18 February, 1843') and on the back it reads 'von Adolph'. Wish I knew the true provenance of this! The glass is in excellent condition, especially for being almost 200 years old! - some typical small bubbles within it here and there, and there's a very small crack within the glass on the stem. You should be able to see that in one of the photos. Other than that, just a couple tiny flea bites...so absolutely nothing really noteworthy and definitely nothing that takes away from its display quality. There is quite a bit of expected wear on the underside of the footing, definitely commensurate with its age as well. The clear stem and footing fluoresce under a blacklight, indicative of the manganese used inside old glass. This is a truly magnificent piece that has survived with lots of TLC. There are no maker's markings that I can see, but it seems that this meets the stylings of Biedermeier, though that's just a guess.
