Description: ANTIQUE CHILDREN’S PUPPETCHAD VALLEY ENGLAND"SWEEP" In 1956 my family went to England to visit relatives. While there I was given these four puppets. (They were new in 1956.) While I can’t guarantee it, I believe they are all made by the Chad Valley Co. in England. I know two of them are based on a Children’s TV show that was on then (Sooty and Sweep) and that toy puppets from that show were made by Chad Valley. Only one of my puppets (Sweep) has that tag. Two others (not Sweep or Sooty) have worn and unreadable tags in the same spot, and all four have similar eyes (gold plastic with black iris). I do not know the names of the two odd puppets (a brown bear and a light brownish-grey dog with a pink bow). For these reasons I believe they are all from the same company. I am selling the puppets separately (the last photo is just to give you an indication of the other three) so this listing is only for Sweep. However, bid on and win all four and I will deduct 10% from a combined invoice. All four have been lovingly played with and have been safely stored until now. They all show wear -- specifics below – but they are very distinctive. SWEEP · Sweep is one of the characters from the English Children’s show in the 1950’s · This puppet measures about 10” from the top of his head to the hem in the back. · The bottom opening is about 11” in circumference · Sweep is a grey dog with long black ears and black pads on his paws. His fur is very silky. (someone thought it was mohair?) · For details of the face and ears, please see the photos. · Sweep is the puppet with the readable tag in the back seam. It says “Hygienic Toys Made in England by Chad Valley Inc. Ltd.” · Besides possibly needing a cleaning – which I am VERY reluctant to do since I know nothing about antique toys or material – the stuffing in his head is squashed and just barely allows a finger inside. There is a hole at the left shoulder seam which may be fixable. I try to describe my items fairly and honestly to the best of my ability but please keep in mind that I am not an expert.
