Description: Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a lovely Wave Crest Art Glass vase by the C. F. Monroe Co. The vase has beautiful coloration with the top being a soft blush color shading to pale yellow-green just below the shoulder. Vase is decorated on the front and back with a bouquet of pink and ruby chrysanthemum type flowers with green foliage. The top of the vase has a gilded brass beaded collar and two elaborately decorated openwork handles. Marked on the base with the Wave Crest trademark stamp although stamp is worn. Vase is pictured on page 374 of the book "Wave Crest: The Glass of C. F. Monroe" by Wilfred R. Cohen. The author states that this vase design is an unusual blank for the Wave Crest line. Measures 9 1/2" high, 4 1/2" wide (at handles) and 2 3/4" in diameter (at base). Weighs 1.5 pounds. Wave Crest glass was produced as an opal glass blank and was then decorated. Originally called "Opal Ware", this glass was at the height of its popularity from 1890 to 1910. Much of the opal glass known as Wave Crest was produced by the Mt. Washington Glass Co. and was then purchased by the C. F. Monroe Co. as undecorated glass blanks to be decorated by their artists. This nice vase is in very good to excellent Estate condition with the only noted flaw being minor wear to the gilding on the collar.
