Description: I have here for sale a superb rare surviving antique Victorian piece of navigation equipment dating from 1860 to 1883 so is of considerable age. Made by Gardener & Co of 53 Buchanan Street Glasgow and due to the address i can attribute this scientific instrument to the dates i have given. Marked as shown for Gardener & Co Opticians to the Queen, the Queen being Victoria at this time. Measures 24 inches long and is heavy, weighing over 3.3kg. In good condition with the rollers working just as they should and has most likely been stored for many years hence the patina. Other than a light clean i have left as i found as you may wish to preserve the original patina. A historic instrument most likely for navy navigation use at the time. The only other pieces from this maker i am able to find are in the Science museum in London where the also have a brass protractor attributed to Gardener & Co. A very interesting historic find. Thanks for looking and any questions please email.
