Description: Just out of a local smoke free house is this scarce antique bronze Art Deco nude sculpture ca 1920. The nude female figure has one hand clasping her right breast the other is raised over her head while gazing upward. The bronze is signed Maugsch in the casting. The sculpture is mounted on a carved white marble base. Overall it measures about 13 inches high, about 4 inches wide, and about 2 5/8 inches deep. The bronze sculpture alone measures about 8 1/4 inches high. It is in good condition with a nice patina but it has a small bruise on the nose. See photos as they are part of the description. Bio; Gyula Maugsch (1882-1946) was a renowned Hungarian painter, sculptor and medalist. He was an important artist in 20th century Hungarian art. Has worked in Berlin with sculptors August Gaul and Reinhold Begas. Later on he has taught modelling in Székesfehérvár. From 1909 he has worked in Budapest, favored modeling animals and female nudes.
