Description: A Kurdish weaver in the Bijar area of northwestern Iran made this large, heavy cicim circa 1920. It is constructed of 100% wool, it measures 6' 1" X 7' 11" (without fringes) and it is in very good condition. Diamond shapes fill the field in rows and appear again in a lattice-like arrangement in the main border. The frnge yarn has been separated into groups and braided. It's obvious that this piece was made in two sections which were sewn together. Some of the fringe braids are longer that others, but that was the way the fringe was cut when it came off the loom. None of the braids is missing, but some have been damaged as shown in the photos. Tassels were stitched to the edges of the cicim and several tufts of wool were placed in the field as amulets.
