Description: Antique Architectural Salvage French Bronze Lion Fountain Head Mask. Heavy at 9 pounds 12 oz. This piece according to the tag came from Foxcatcher Farm in Fair Hill MD. The property and steeplechase racetrack were developed by William DuPont Jr. beginning in the 1920s. The fountain mask is nearly identical to the mask on the Haudriettes Fountain in Paris, France built in the 1700s. An incredible find. Condition issues include some cracks, scratches, dents and some chips or breaks inside the left ear area. A couple of rust streaks are likely from iron or steel screws that were used to mount the mask. The picture with the pickup in the background shows the bronze where it has been rubbed on the base. Still this is a rare and exceptional architectural piece. See photos for details and measurements.
