Description: Alexander Werk (5526) Antique Cast Iron German Hand Crank Automatic Tobacco Cutter. The top board opens up and tobacco is slipped under the roller wheel. When the crank is turned the cutting blades engage as the tobacco is automatically indexed toward the rotating knife mill. Very clever design and fully functional. In very good condition, paint is almost perfect. (If it has been restored it was a long time ago.) The wooden top board and roller cog are intact and not split or damaged. Solid cast iron, steel and brass/bronze construction. Over-all while in great shape, may show typical signs of use and normal wear that are typical with age such as paint chips and oxidation. This piece displays well and is a tribute to past craftsmanship. I've only run across several of these in my life time and this is by far the nicest one I have seen.
