Description: From a discriminating collector's estate sale. This is a unique handmade Hausa dagger from the 19th century. Still somewhat sharp and you can even see the strokes of the sharpening stone that was used! There is a chip in the steel near the tip that has blackened. It would not take much to clean the rust off the blade near the hilt if desired. I haven't been able to identify the wood of the hilt but it's very light. The engraving along the blade was done by hand and is quite beautiful. One of the hilt chips was probably while the knife was still in use as it was painted over. The scabbard is quite unusual and rare. It appears to be handmade of camel leather with the fur still on! The fur has been worn off of the edges and a patch or two on one side, but the rest is still soft. Please view the photos as we do our best to show details.
