Antique 6th Sixth Plate Daguerreotype of Handsome Sailor or Ship Captain?

Description: This handsome 19th century light-eyed sailor or ship's captain is shown fully turned out in the fashion of the day. My guess is late 1840s (no preserver frame and hairstyle). He is shown sporting a loop earring on the right side -- pardon the somewhat blurry image...my camera is not the best. Condition is very good. I have not removed it from the case and there appears to be a bit of dust under the glass and peripheral tarnish, as is expected.
