Description: Here is an impressive hay fork that goes way back! I believe it is made of oak, and the dimensions of this unit are 59” wide, 32” high and the forks themselves are 27” deep. They are in solid condition, but there is one repaired area as you can see in photos 12 &13. They are still very functional with the latch and frame that releases the forks for dumping the hay still in good shape and work well. This is a really rare piece of ranch and farm history that goes back before hay was put up in a barn in the form of bales. It was instead put up and taken out of a barn in loose hay form with the use of a trolley on tracks and hay forks like this one. A quick search on the net and you will find sites that explain how they work. It is pretty impressive considering it is all done manually. I am not sure how old these forks are, but I would imagine they may go back as far as the turn of the century or maybe sometime in the 1800s. You can take a look at the photos of the numbers etc. I have included in the auction and maybe that will help to determine the age. If you have any idea please let me know. I am very curious to learn just how old this piece of history is. This would make a great display for your house, barn, museum, or wherever you would like an impressive and functional piece of farming and ranching history. I can unbolt the forks from the frame, pack everything together, and ship these forks through UPS. Thanks for viewing this listing.
