Description: A charming 19th century samplerthe sampler features two different alphabets, the year 1849, the numbers 1 -10, the sewer's full name, and her age. The first alphabet is comprised of capital letters in brick red thread (there is some slight loss to the A and K) Note the unusual formation of the Q. The third row of the sampler concludes with the date "1849". The fourth the fifth line of the sampler feature a lower case alphabet done in a light blue thread. the p and q on the fifth line are charmingly mis-sized. the sixth line of the sampler are the numbers 1-10 (with the number 6 done twice - so cute) concluding with a period and ampersand. Our 7th line has our proud artist signing Sophia Ann Post in multicolored thread. The 8th and final line reads "aged 12 years 9 months in multicolored thread. (please note slight loss to g in aged and slight stain over e and slight loss to 1 in the 12)Overall a sweet sampler that would grace any 19th century home. also perhaps of note, the sampler is backed with a partial antique cardboard advertisement from the circa 1920's this sampler was purchased in New Jersey and some quick genealogical research appears to confirm that Sophia was born in NJ in 1836.
