Description: For sale is an Antique 19th Century hand Painted Tin toleware box with original hand painted design. Tole ware began to be made just after the American Revolution. Decorating and lacquering these tin containers made them at once beautiful and resistant to corrosion. Painting tole ware became popular with the Pennsylvania Dutch as well as others when plain tin wares from New England were sold to more southerly locations. This item has maintained most of its paint decorations on four sides. There are significant paint losses on the lid as is the case with many tole ware.
