Antique 19th C French Lyon Silk Embroidered & Ribboned Floral Brocade DF 120

Description: An amazing piece of Lyon Silk from the collection of Delia Field - a gorgeous brocade textile with beautiful embroidered flowers in rose on a smokey silvery blue silk taffeta, separated with strips of white moire ribbon that is part of the weaving process although it looks applied, something I have never seen before. It is likely that this silk was previously used for sections of a long, formal evening dress. The actual width of the fabric from selvage to selvage is 21 inches. We have several other pieces of this fabric available that will sell separately, approximately 8-10 yards. The condition is excellent. We note a few tiny breaks in the silk toward the bottom of the length (see photos). 21-1/2” wide x 46” long This remarkable silk has a distinctive provenance coming from the estate of Delia Field, wife of the famous 19th century department store magnate Marshall Field of Chicago. She was an avid collector of antique textiles and linens in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. After the death of Marshall Field in 1906, Mrs. Field moved to Washington, DC and lived in the "Pink Mansion" on 16th Street NW until her death in 1937. Our last two pictures show a National Portrait Gallery painting of Mrs. Field and her Pink Mansion.
