Description: Gorgeous Antique 18th Century Qianlong c1740-1770 Chinese Export Blue & White Dish / Plate With Applied Dutch - Netherlands .833 Silver Handle Dated 1906 from Amsterdam and with Unidentified Maker's Mark. This piece is truly unique! In the very early 1900s, someone in Amsterdam, Netherlands took this c1700s Qianlong Chinese Plate and applied a hand made silver handle to it! The handle "swings" so that it can be folded down to keep flat for storage or folded up for easy carrying. The handle is stamped in 3 places with 4 total hallmarks. -The Lion Hallmark with a 2 under it is a Kingdom of the Netherlands Silver Fineness mark for .833 Silver and was used from 1814-1953. -The mark next to the Lion looks to read "EP" of "FP" or something like that and would be the Maker's Mark though I wasn't able to identify the maker. -The left facing head with a helmet with letter A in it is a Regional Assay Office Mark for Amsterdam. -And lastly the other mark thst appears to have lowercase script letters in it is a date mark for 1906. The plate is signed with a seal on the bottom. From my research, many decorators from this period were illiterate and were producing for an export market that could not reach Chinese anyway - and so it was common for porcelains to be signed by these illiterate decorators with seals that made no sense. Overall the piece is in nice condition for its age. The Chinese plate itself has many rim chips and knicks around the entire rim and some firing flaws to the glaze in the center of plate - but is overall sturdy and displays beautifully! With handle, measures 9 5/8" across (10" with handle folded down) x 7 1/4" tall. Handle is 1" wide. Handle has not been removed from plate, so total silver weight is unknown.
