Description: Lovely original 18th century ornithology volume from Buffon's Histoire Naturelle, circa 1798-1799 with the publishing year on the title page printed as VII according to the French Republican calendar. The book is in overall very good condition with some minor signs of wear and age. The covers have some minor wear. The binding is good and sound. The front pastedown has a nice old bookplate adhered to it. The interior is generally nice and clean with just the occasional light bit of foxing or grubbiness. One of the leaves has some marginal chipping and another one has a marginal tear, neither of which affects the text. Along with that there may be the occasional page with some kind of other minor imperfection such as another small tear or chip, creased page corner, minor marking, etc. Generally though, it's a nice copy. The book is a fairly small volume which measures approximately 5 1/4 inches by 3 3/8 inches. It is beautifully illustrated with 8 hand colored ornithology plates.
