Description: This truly exceptional lamp was produced by the Muller brothers in Luneville France in about 1910. The shade is in orange and blue pate-de-verre glass, mounted on an ironwork frame, probably by Edgar Brandt. Edgar Brandt performed contract work for the brothers, but did not sign these works. Brandt is famous for the spectacular stairway in the Louvre. The lamp is unusual in having a brass swivel neck, mounted on a stylised flower sepal, again executed in detailed ironwork. Muller Freres was an esteemed French glassmaking company based in Luneville, France, famous for its Art Nouveau vases, lampshades, and chandeliers, which often incorporate layered and colored glass. Their workshop was established byHenri Muller and his brothers in 1895 after they trained withmile Galle, who would retain a grudge against Muller for setting up a rival enterprise. In 1910, the company began making lamps in association with Chapelle and, at its height, employed around 300 workers. The lamp is wired for Australia. Height 33cm, Width 18cm, Depth 30cm.
