Description: Auction description An Array of Medieval Saints with Halos, Expressive Drawings from Italy ca. 1850 These two sheets of pencil sketches, perhaps studies after medieval/early Renaissance church art, presumably after (Venetian?) frescoes or wall paintings, were made by a French or Italian artist in Italy during the mid nineteenth century. They are unsigned, but the respected expert at the Paris auction where I obtained them believes them to be by French artist Jacques Perin (1798-1874). The saints, male and female, are mostly wearing halos, and some of them have finely rendered draperies. They are rewarding to contemplate and admire. Dimensions of the combined sheet are about 17 inches by 9 inches. There is paper toning and a vertical glue mark right of center, but condition remains overall good. Upper right, there is some pencilled text, and I make out the word "Venezia." My opening price for these is very modest. Shipping within the U.S. will be $12.
