Publisher's original 1/2 leather binding, smooth spine, gilt bands, gilt title lettering, marbled covers. Volume six of a monumental seven volume work. This volume complete unto itself for the definitions/ explanations from the words "Minium/ Red Lead" through "Printing". Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition, covers well rubbed, joints cracked/ broken, lacking map plates, some damp staining, sold as described and as it survives. Binding well age worn, shaken, covers loosened and held by binding cords, various expected signs of handling and time, book remains overall attractive as an object. Intended as a work of reference, the book has clearly been much handled and used yet remains uniquely appealing as a completely hand-made artifact of this early era in American history. Paper is heavily uniformly well age toned, some heavy edge damp staining to front and rear portions of the text block as seen in pics, scattered foxing and small stains, still square and mostly tight. Still attractive on the shelf. The book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in overall nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws which may be present seem easy to overlook or forgive. Please review photos for more detail showing how this early 19th century book survives. The asking price reflects the condition based on our examination and 35+ years full time exposure to antiquarian books, maps and printed ephemera of all types and genres. Flaws seen and/ or described have been taken into account. Book Measures c. 10 1/2" H x 8 3/4" W. [B9849].
