Description: DETAILS This antique chest of drawers was likely crafted in the Boston, Massachusetts area. This form is known as reverse serpentine where the front displays outer convex curves with a concave center section. The chest is fitted with brass batwing brasses and bail handles and is raised on ball and claw feet with a shaped apron and shell carved center. With wide single plank top and sides. PROVENANCE Private collection. From the Estate of Elizabeth Temple Winthrop Tappan (American, 1787-1860) by descent to the present owner. Miss Winthrop was the subject of a portrait by famed artist Gilbert Stuart (American, 1755-1828) in 1806.
