Description: A good example of an American 1851 pattern naval officers sword. An export blade being clearly marked ‘W Clauberg Solingen’, profusely etched with floral and arms design, aswell as ‘USN’ and the American shielded fouled anchor. Backstrap of the blade is etched with ‘Iron Proof’ mark, some staining towards the tip. Brass hilt, with pommel showing the US eagle. Wooden grip now lack its shagreen covering, however retains its brass wire binding. Sea serpent knuckle-bow shows a crack toward the fork of the guard.
