Description: A fine impressionist oil landscape by American artist Allen Dean Cochran A pleasant winter landscape by American artist Allen Dean Cochran (1888-1971). Cochran was born in Cincinnati in 1888. He received his first artistic training at the Art Students League in New York under muralist Kenyon Cox and attended the League’s Summer Art School in Woodstock, New York, where Tonalist painter Birge Harrison was his teacher. In 1913 Cochran is listed as living in Binghamton, New York, and by 1933 he had settled in Woodstock.Cochran exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts from 1912 to 1918, Corcoran Gallery of Art from 1914 to 1919, and at the Art Institute of Chicago from 1914 to 1917. He was a member of the Salmagundi Club, Society of American Artists, and the Woodstock Art Association, which also houses Cochran’s work in its permanent collection. Cochran’s work is located in the permanent collection of the Woodstock Artists Association and Museum, New York.Oil on board, signed lower right, with artists placard, title inscribed by artist on verso “Trout Stream Shady” and housed in a fine decorative giltwood frame.
