Description: Rare signed black & white with sepia overtones master print by Charlie Ott. Taken of Grant Pearson, Denali Park Superintendent on patrol at Savage River with the Outer Range in the background in the mid-1950's. Print size is 11" x 14" overall frame size is 23" x 19". Mint condition. Charlie Ott and Grant Pearson are both famous Alaskan pioneers. Grant Pearson (1900-1978), a native of Minnesota, arrived in Alaska in 1925. In 1926 he joined the National Park Service, with which he was to remain for the next thirty years. Other than brief stints at Yosemite National Park (1939-1942) and Sitka and Glacier Bay National Monument (1947-1947), he spent his entire Park Service career at Mt. McKinley National Park (now Denali National Park and Preserve), where he rose through the ranks from ranger to superintendent. Soon after his retirement in 1956, he embarked upon a career in Alaskan politics. He represented McKinley Park (1959-61) and Nenana (1961-65) in the State House of Representatives, and served in the State Senate from 1965 to 1967. Charlie Ott (1913-1999) was born and raised in Wisconsin, he worked in Alaska for the National Park Service for 24 years in the 1950's - 1970's. He was an outstanding wildlife and scenic photographer and documented Denali National Park and Preserve. There is a Charlie Ott collection of articles, images, and letters at the University of Fairbanks which preserve his activities in photography and environmental conservation. We obtained this print from Ernest Scott who was District Ranger at Denali Natl Pk. in the 1970's. It was a gift to my husband who worked as a Park Ranger with 'Scotty'. The framed print is inscribed on the back to Johnny & Peggy from Scotty. The picture of Charlie Ott was taken in his cabin at Denali Park by Johnny Johnson.
