Description: BFCM MONTH SALE 30% OFF SALEDimensions: 12”H x 7”D x 7”WMaterial: Heavy Ebony WoodConstruction: 100% Handmade / Carved from one Ebony Trunk BACKGROUND-----------------------The Makonde or “Wamakonde” tribe is an ethnic group situated in the southeast of Tanzania. Known for their excellent craftsmanship, wamakonde are mostly known for their Mapiko masks and Ujamaa (Tree of Life) carvings. The tree of life locally known as “Ujamaa”, is a depiction of unity and the strength of many. This is usually portrayed as a family or an entire community featuring men, women and children in an ascending order with each person hand in hand and above each other. Carved by hand using an expensive chunk of ebony wood, each piece exhibits the intricacy of design, detail and strength of a community. A 3 to 4 ft carving can take anywhere between 3-4 months to complete “just one”. One can only appreciate the detail when staring at one to realize that all this is done by hand without any mistakes. SHIPPING AND RETURNS--------------------------------------Please allow 3-4 business days to process each order. Order will be shipped via UPS ground and tracking provided. Returns are not accepted for this item given the intricate nature of carving.
