ADVERTISING/POSTAL HISTORY - GENERAL ELECTRIC AD ETR-1054-2 ON UX38 ADVERTISING/POSTAL HISTORY - GENERAL ELECTRIC AD ETR-1054-2 ON UX38 In 1958, General Electric found themselves sitting on 750,000 2c UX38 Postal Cards with Illustrated Advertisements on the back, ready for an upcoming mailing.... when the Postcard rate increased from 2c to 3c. Ouch! Plan A would be to hire some people to add 1c stamps to all 750,000 cards. Plan B would be to get the U.S.P.O.D. to re-value the cards, officially. Fortunately for us all, Plan B was put into effect. 750,000 UX47 "G.E. CARDS" were created. Most were commercially used, discarded, never recovered into Philatelic channels. As I understand it, NOT EVERY UX38 was surcharged. A few didn't make it. Very few. These ads, on UX38s, are scarcer than they are on UX47s. This card and the next few lots are from the collection of Bradley Horton. A well-known major collector of U.S. Postal Stationery, he had contacts, and he managed to acquire a few of these for his collection. Excellent condition. WARNING: This card is a UX38, not a UX47. Computer scans often show darker or lighter areas which aren't on the actual item, and the larger the object to be scanned, the more areas will be affected. Plus, I scan using a "cover sheet" to hold the item in place, and the plastic cover sheet can create glare. ALWAYS GO WITH THE DESCRIPTION!
