Adirondack School Folk Art Antique Oil Painting with Old Mill & Woman by River

Description: this is a gorgeous antique oil painting done in an impressionistic style depicting an ancient mill by a river waterfall - although the painting in not signed by the very capable artist & is not dated, the physical aspects of the work reflect that it was created c.1890's - when you look at the reverse, you see that the painting was done on stiff "Academy" artist board which was used by artist from about 1875 - 1915 - looking at the original gesso on wood frame also tells us that the painting was framed c.1890's - the style of the painting itself suggests a late 19th century appearance of the subject matter (i.e., the mill buildings as well as the background hills & mountains & foliage by the mill - the painting is remarkable for its condition as the talented artist's palette of muted & subtle browns, gray-greens, & hazy-faded blues are still quite bright & vibrant considering the age of the artwork - the artist also did a good job bringing life to the splashing water going over the waterfall near the mill building - the sense of distance & space between the mill buildings & the distant mountains was well-done by using faded white & blue colors as well as faded gray-green colors to create the distance - the off-blue & off-white sky painted by the artist also creates distance & space from the main focus ( the mill & the waterfall) of the painting - the painting measures 18" x 12" sight size, & is in very good condition for its antique age - it is greatly enhanced by its original fancy & ornate gilded gesso on wooden frame which measures 3" beyond the painting, or, 21" x 15" - it is in very good condition & gilded color for its antique age - the Academy artist board upon which the painting was done is flat & sturdy as well as remarkably clean - note that this painting can be picked up at my home in Swanzey, NH -
