Description: AC Fr 351 1891 $1 Treasury Coin Note STANTON PCGS 63 PPQ uncirculated Click images to enlarge Description This is a 1891 $1 Treasury Note. That makes it one of the cheaper varieties of notes with Lincoln's first Secretary of War, Stanton, on the front. The more expensive version is the 1890 with the ornate back. This note has been graded as Choice Uncirculated 63PPQ. Just a tiny bit of centering away from a gem note! The Premium Paper Quality means this is an original note, nor pressed or washed out like many raw notes touted as high grade you see on eBay. You don't have to take my work for the grade of the note, you can trust PCGS. Back around the turn of the 19th century there was a big debate concerning currency in the United States. We had had the industrial revolution and this country was starting to move away from an agrarian society. Unlike today where we have a fiat currency, we had a gold standard. But not everyone was happy with the gold standard. The smaller farmers wanted a bi-metallic standard of silver and gold. Silver was what more of them wanted, and they knew it would cause inflation because of the increasing money supply. They owed money to the New York banks who controlled the amount of gold in circulation and inflation would make their debts somewhat cheaper. These notes were bowing to some of the political pressure of the time. They could be redeemed for either gold OR silver coin. Shipping Shipping will be done by USPS Express mail.
