Description: This listing is for a set of twenty-four(24) 'Abbie and Slats' Daily Comic Strips. These are not reprints, these are original black and white strips cut from Newspapers published January 1952. They are all 4C (Four-Column) Size, apprx 8" x 2 1/2" each.Abbie and Slats first appeared on July 7, 1937 as a daily comic with a Sunday feature soon following. The strip revolved around the escapades of Aubrey 'Slats' Scrapple, a New York street-kid transplanted into the country town of Crabtree Corners. The strip was ably written by Al Capp(creator of Li'l Abner). however, it was the wonderful artwork of Raeburn Van Buren that sets this strip apart. Before 'Slats', Van Buren has been working on special features for various newspaper syndicates. His artwork would pop up in the Sunday Feature Sections of many newspapers. The small size of comic strips stifled his work, however, his obvious talent still shows through nicely. He would continue handling the artwork chores on 'Abbie and Slats' through its end in 1971.These strips are in pretty good condition. The paper quality is a very supple off-white. The print quality is fine with sharp Black and White lines. These are extremely collectable comic strips(see pics provided).I am quoting USPS Ground Advantage shipping for this item.
