Description: A compilation of the Henry D. Price family documents from 1819 -1920 with historical commentary. The documents illuminate the social, economic and political history of Prices Fork, Blacksburg, Christiansburg and Montgomery County VA . The Prices were some of the earliest settlers along the New River west of Blacksburg beginning around 1750. The Prices (German Preiz, Preisch) immigrated from the German Palatinate through Philadelphia, PA in 1738. Four Price brothers (John Michael. John Henry. Augustine and Daniel) along with their sister Anna Margaretha (who was married to John Phillip Harless) traveled westward through Lancaster PA , then south and west to the Peaked Mountain Settlement in the Shenandoah Valley near Harrisonburg, VA. Eventually they travelled further south and west to the New River near Blacksburg, VA. Names included in the documents are Wall, Surface, Ingles, Bowyer, Lewis, Harless, Kent, Amiss, Perfater, Sibold, Guggenheimer, Kabrich, McCoy, Kinzer, Bodell, Schaeffer, Cromer, Fisher, Gardner, Hornbarger, Shell, Stanger, McDonald. The documents were an original find from the Florence Price Kinnear estate in 2013. The Henry Price family was involved in the early millstone manufacturing and coal mining industries in the Prices Fork community. Softcover, 132 pp, indexed, bibliography, with color photos.
