The item must also be kept available for inspection in the state it was delivered, at the address it was delivered to. If it is shown that an item has been damaged in transit, the carrier will (at their discretion) generally pay for damage to be repaired rather than a replacement – depending on the level of damage to the item. Accordingly, they may ask for an estimate of repair costs from a specialist who will carry out the repair. If the item cannot reasonably be repaired then they would need confirmation this from the specialist in order for a claim to be considered. It is very important to follow the conditions set out above as Carriers will generally refuse any claim made if the packaging and the goods are not retained for inspection.
