Description: 9’ 3/2 Heddon #1000 DeLuxe “Rod of Rods” Bamboo Fly Rod – 2 ½ F – Very Rare It is with great pleasure that I offer this best of breed Heddon #1000 DeLuxe fly rod in a size 2 ½ ferrule designation. According to Heddon, “the bamboo in this rod was the finest obtainable.” Less than one-half of one percent of Heddon’s massive culm stock was good enough for this model, according to Michael Sinclair, author of Heddon, The Rod with the Fighting Heart. It is estimated that fewer than 400 “Rod of Rods” were ever made (Sinclair, Michael. Heddon, The Rod with the Fighting Heart. Grand Junction, CO: Centennial Publications, 1997.). The number in existence today is only a fraction of those made, making this a very rare offering from Heddon’s best grade. This beautiful rod is artistically wound in dark brown tipped old gold silks which blend harmoniously with the deep brown tempered cane, black oxidized ferrules, and genuine gold-plated hardware. The stripping guide is a gorgeous deep red agate enveloped by a gold-plated nickel silver frame. The rod is equipped with a 6 ¾” cork grip and a down screw-locking reel seat with gold plating and a stunning Circassian walnut spacer. The cork has been properly cleaned with alcohol only to sanitize and remove surface dirt. The model, grade, length, ferrule designation, and line designation are inscribed on the butt section. All components and wraps look original, although one snake wrap appears to have been maintained to keep it original (please see photos). The rod has also been maintained with a coat or two of varnish over the years. All sections are original and full length at 36 ½ inches each. One tip section has a slight set. All guides and wraps are tight, and the ferrule fit is excellent. As expected with the Heddon 2 ½ F designation, the ferrules are sizes 19/64 and 12/64. The rod weighs 5.8 ounces, which is consistent with its cataloged weight. This is an exceptional rod with a taper to handle a variety of situations and the length to effectively manage line. Heddon referred to this taper as its “Heavy Trout or Bass” action for HCH or D lines, which is equivalent to modern 6 or 7 wt. lines. The rod comes complete with a bag with a fine legible tag and an anodized aluminum rod case with some wear to the anodizing. Here is a rare opportunity to own the epitome of Heddon craftsmanship. Key Features: Highest grade rod offered by HeddonExceptional taper custom made by hand from the finest cane available anywhereHarmoniously executed finish with a gorgeous wrap combination against a beautiful deep brown tempered finishGold-plated, top-of-the line componentsStunning Circassian walnut reel seat with a smooth down-locking design, accented in goldHighly versatile rod: the perfect length and taper to handle many types of fishing situations Considered to be an extremely rare Heddon model with only a fraction of the roughly 400 made still in existence Please zoom in on photos for further details. If you have any questions or would like more photos, please don't hesitate to ask. Thank you and good luck!
