Description: Back in the 70s, in my community, we had a drive-in. Many young people don't know anything about drive-ins, other than what they've seen in movies or on TV. It was a rite-of-passage in that decade. And by 1980, our first cinema put the drive-in out of business! I have many memories of Disney movies at the drive-in when I was really young, then saw the first 'Halloween', and the first 'Friday the 13th' as a scary double feature. I remember seeing 'Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii'. And the first 'Star Wars' movie. And even 'The Gong Show Movie'! (More on that in a few seconds.) The speaker was small and sounded terrible, but the food was awesome! And we burned something green and weird smelling in the ashtray for the mosquitos... Today we take a look back at movies that played at drive-in theaters, in the 70s. Some of these have stood the test of time, and are still fantastic, to this very day! I have collected a SIX pack, with three DVDs, and three Blu-rays. First up, is the aforementioned 'Gong Show Movie'. The 'Gong Show' was a show on prime time TV in the 70s, if I remember correctly. Lots of things were cut, or bleeped out. That they made a movie about it is pretty fascinating, considering how bad it really was. Funny, but bad. It's rated 'R', so there's nothing bleeped or cut! Next up is 'The Warriors', originally released in 1979. Directed by Walter Hill, who's also directed 'Southern Comfort', 'Streets of Fire', '48 Hours' (and 'Another 48 Hours'), and many more. A classic action thriller about a New York City gang that must travel 30 miles from the Bronx to Brooklyn, and being looked for by several rival gangs. Then we have 'A Clockwork Orange', from 1971. Directed by the late, great Stanley Kubrick. This one is violent and insane, but a true classic that is tough to watch, but a fun and thought-provoking movie nonetheless! Time to laugh with Monty Python, so I'll include their 1975 comedy hit 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail'. Turning FIFTY next year! Funny, slightly offensive, and deeply irreverent, this mid 70s British comedy masterpiece has lines that can still be heard quoted today: ("It's just a flesh wound!"). Next up is another comedic milestone, and it's called 'Car Wash'. Starring several movie stars, comedians, and musicians, this hilarious look at a California car wash features George Carlin, Richard Pryor, The Pointer Sisters, Antonio Fargas (the original Huggy Bear from TV's 'Starsky and Hutch'), and Franklyn Ajaye, among others. Originally released in '76. They are attempting a modern TV movie based on the original movie, but set in DC with an immigrant family's cultural and generational clashes between owners and employees. Not yet released. The original was also rebooted in 2001, and stars Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre. With cameos by Eminem, Ludacris, And Shaquille O'Neil! We'll end with a rose...1979's movie 'The Rose', with Bette Midler in a role loosely based on Janis Joplin. It's an awesome two hour ride into the world of fame and fortune, sex and drugs, and loneliness and exhaustion. And with an incredible rock and roll soundtrack! Midler was even nominated for an Academy Award for her portrayal of Mary Rose Foster, and she pulls it off, and is fantastic as the star! 'The Rose' disc looks new, and is shiny and clean. Case looks great. Commentary and theatrical trailer added. 'Car Wash' has several "swirl" marks on it, but plays fine, with no issues. Case looks great. 'Holy Grail' has a slipcover, and a SECOND DISC of special features! Both discs look new, and are shiny and clean. Case and slipcover also look new. These are the three DVDs. The first of the Blu-ray discs is 'The Warriors' (the ultimate director's cut). Looks new, and is shiny and clean. Case looks new. Special features include 4 featurettes, an introduction by director Walter Hill, and theatrical trailer. 'A Clockwork Orange' is here with several special features. Blu-ray disc looks new, and is shiny and clean. Case also looks new. And last, 'The Gong Show Movie', is STILL SEALED and NEVER OPENED or PLAYED! With a commentary featuring a pop culture historian (Russell Dyball). Go back in time with this crazy and cool six pack of classic 70s drive-in movies (yes, I've actually seen all of these at the drive-in when they were first released). Most in like-new condition, and all vintage films that will make you laugh, make you nervous or jumpy, or just make you think. But you're on your own for the snacks! Shipping worldwide.
