Description: The 6th US Cavalry was a notable Civil War combat unit and fought the Comanches and Kiowa, patrolling the Texas Frontier as far west as Palo Duro Canyon. An Original 6th US Cavalry Muster Roll for Company A, filled in at Jacksboro, Texas, October 31, 1866, and ink signed by Captain Benjamin Tucker Hutchins as Company Commander and by Captain GC Cram , issued during the Comanche/Kiowa War while nearby Fort Richardson was being built by the 6th Cavalry. The Muster Roll names 60 some troopers, with comments that some are on detached duty at Jacksboro, Austin, etc, some listed as deserters, on furlough etc, also 2 men listed as dead of cholera and typhoid, and notes the men are deficient in cartridges and waist belts due to the impossibility of obtaining them.An Original, Complete Muster Roll, 31 x 21".
