Description: New nylon sail, mast and folding spar set for your Sunflower sailboat or DIY project. Lateen style. Measures 11' 4" x 11'4" x 12'6" and at the blunt lower front corner it measures about 7" to outside of sleeves when they are flat (see close-up photo). No writing on sail. Dark blue/light blue combination, as pictured. Has sewn-in sleeves along two edges to accept the spars (poles). Boat not included. Ropes are included. Gooseneck (also known as boom guide assembly or mast slide) is included. We view this as an oversized sail intended for use in light winds on a small boat, to make the most of available wind. The standard sail for a Sunflower is about 55 square feet while this sail is about 66 square feet. It's the same height as a standard Sunflower sail but about 2 feet longer on the horizontal. The "spars" are the aluminum poles that go into the sleeves and support the sail. One spar is the boom, the other (the almost vertical one) is called the gaff. The spars fold, with the sail still on them, to make a nice little portable bundle less than 4 feet long. Instructions for putting spars into the sail are included. Also included is a swiveling mast slide (gooseneck) which makes the connection between the boom and the mast. Ropes are included (halyard and sheet). Mast Options: The standard mast we ship with this item fits the Sunflower. It is 99 inches tall and 1 1/8" diameter at the bottom. If you prefer, you can request a 96" -tall mast that is 1 1/4" diameter at the bottom, at the same price. As a third option, for $50 additional, we offer a 96-inch mast that is 1 1/2" diameter at the bottom. You would have to contact us to arrange for the second or third option. This listing is just for the sail, spars and ropes. No boat, no rudder, no daggerboard, no mast step included . This sail is not a direct replacement for any sailboat on the market. It will fit a Sunflower sailboat. It would be too big for strong winds on a Sunflower but great for light winds. Easy to switch between standard sail and this sail since each sail would remain mounted on its own spar set. User Review: Though we only recommend the rig for light winds because of the large sail area and concern the extra power might over-stress something on your boat, one of our customers has ignored that advice with no bad results and he is having a lot of fun with it. The wind was gusting to 23mph and the Sunflower was tearing along at 4.5 mph for 2 miles per my Iphone gps app. I think that would be a top speed for the Sunflower. I had to really hike out to keep from capsizing and the mast was bending like crazy with the gusts but the mast was ok in the end. I mention this in case anyone is considering upgrading to the large 66 sq ft sail from the 55 sq ft sail. Be prepared for some energetic sailing!" A sail has to be cut and sewn correctly in order to attain the aerodynamically correct curvature in the wind. If it's not done right, a sail doesn't generate as much power for your boat as it should. These are done right. And they're beautiful! The spars are anodized aluminum and the sections of each spar are held together with internal elastic cord to keep them organized when folded.
