Description: Here you can get 50+ seeds of common milkweed / Asclepias Syriaca. This perennial plant not only provides nectar for butterflies, bees, and other pollinators but is a larval host plant for Monarch butterflies. The common milkweed is the only plant family that serves as the host plant for monarch butterfly egg laying. The monarch larvae, the hatchling caterpillars, feed exclusively on milkweed leaves. Without milkweed, there can be no monarch butterflies. This plant grows quickly to four feet in height. It has a narrow vertical growth habit and thick, long, oblong green leaves that grow to about eight inches. How to plant: Milkweed seeds need a cold stratification period. This will help them germinate in spring. You can either do this by storaging the seeds in your fridge for up to 8 weeks in winter, or direct sow them in your garden soil in a sunny spot from December till February or do wintersowing in protected containers outside. When direct planting them outdoors, just scatter and barely cover them. They will come up in spring. Please have a look at my other auctions. If I can combine shipping I will include bonus seeds to show you my appreciation.
