Hand collected and packed leaves from our 100 year old, chemical- and pesticide-free Live Oak trees located on our South Texas ranch. We have more than 70 trees that provide amazing leaves for your terrarium or vivarium. We pack our boxes completely full with loose litter to maximize the amount you receive. Leaf litter refers to a layer of dead leaves on the floor of the vivarium. Leaf litter provides visual barriers and places to hide for the vivarium inhabitants. Leaf litter also gradually breaks down, adding nutrients to the substrate, and sustaining healthy populations of microfauna, such as springtails and isopods, that not only provide a source of food for many vivarium inhabitants, but also aid in keeping the vivarium clean. Leaf Litter performs a very important role in a naturalistic vivarium. It provides shelter, visual barriers, and hiding places for the vivariums inhabitants. Leaf litter mimics the role of dead plant matter in the forest. Our tortoise Stewie even enjoys a bed of freshly fallen oak leaves.
