These round brilliant cut gems measure 1.9 to 2.0mm in diameter and weigh a combined 1.00+cts. Parcel of 30 round Yogo gems having total weight of 1.00+ Carats. (Average 0.033+ct. each). These will show blue/violet-blue/blueish violet colors depending on the lighting conditions. They do not require heating to improve clarity and to remove color zones. Yogos are some of the finest sapphires found anywhere in the world, but sizes are always small and a 1/2ct Yogo or larger are considered extremely rare. Document showing the trail of the rough to the finished sapphire, From the mine owner to gem cutter, and then acquisition of the remaining inventory by Atlantis Gems Inc. In March 1993, AMAX, Inc., a major mineral resource development corporation entered into a twenty-two-month lease-purchase agreement to acquire the mine. Field operations began in June 1993 and during the next two years, $2 million was spent on the project. After considering the approximate $10 million cost to purchase the Yogo dike property and the high cost of underground mining, the company elected to not exercise the purchase option of its contract. During this option period Yogo rough gems were recovered, sent to Bangkok, Thailand for cutting, yielding approximately 1000 carats of faceted gems. Thus, the cost to AMAX was approximately $2000 per carat. While some stones cut into magnificent gems as large as 1.8 carats, 80 percent of the rough yielded cut gems averaging less than 10 points. Atlantis Gems, advisor to Amax on the cutting, acquired the remaining faceted inventory in 1996. Atlantis manufactured Yogo jewelry for sale in its retail store in Denver, and with the closure of its retail outlet, the remaining inventory will be available for sale on EBAY.
