This included 1,000 pilots and more than 15,000 support staff of men and women of diverse backgrounds. Their unique military record inspired reform in the Armed Forces. The quarter’s design features a pilot at Moton Field flight training facility. The words, “THEY FOUGHT TWO WARS” refers to fighting abroad in World War II as well as racism at home.
