Description: 1. THE DAYS BEFORE YESTERDAY by Lord Frederic Hamilton Reprint Published by Dodo Press; UK: 20072. THE VANISHED POMPS OF YESTERDAY by Lord Frederic HamiltonPublished Doubleday, Doran & Company, Inc.; New York: 1934FROM A SMOKE-FREE HOME Lord Frederic Spencer Hamilton (1856-1928) was a British politician, the sixth son of James Hamilton, 1st Duke of Abercorn and Lady Louisa Russell. He was Second Secretary of the Diplomatic Service (1877-1884) and Member of Parliament for Manchester South West (1884-1886). Lord Frederic also wrote the books Vanished Pomps of Yesterday (1919), The Days Before Yesterday (1920) and Here, There and Everywhere (1921). While serving as aide-de-camp to Lord Lansdowne, then Governor-General of Canada, in Ottawa, Lord Frederic was the first person to introduce skiing to Canada. From 1896 to 1900, he was editor of the Pall Mall Magazine. He never married and died without children.1. The Days Before Yesterday -- This is an oversized paperback Reprint that measures 9" x 6" and has 194 pages. Condition: I bought this reprint new. It continues to be free of rips, writing, stains, folds, and spine creases. 2. The Vanished Pomps of Yesterday -- This is a hardback book (no dust jacket) that measures 8.5" x 6.25" and has 362 pages. Condition: Better than you would expect for a 90-year-old book. You will see yellowing of the pages but all are intact--none loose or missing. There is an inscription (perhaps the first owner) on the frontispiece from 1936, but no other writing or markings. The pages are clean. The binding is tight. The cloth cover shows wear and tear and the corners and edges. The spine has a 2" rip along the fold and the green color is now brown from the sun or grime. I see no other flaws to report. Please take a look at the photos and see what you think.I'm slowly starting to part with some of my history/biography (mostly royalty) of England, Russia and some European countries from the period 2nd half of the 19th century thru the Russian Revolution. I got more taken with the period, than with the book I thought I would write. Now that I am in down-sizing mode, a lot of these books must go. So, if this period (and it does cover a lot of ground) is of interest to you, please check back with me in the weeks (and probably months) to come. Many of the books that I bought were used and not expensive, so I'll be bundling a lot of them in order not to be at this forever. Shipping will be via USPS Media Mail. Thanks for checking out my listing.
