Description: Untitled Document2 Leather Vols.:Eminent & Self-Made Men of the State Of Indiana~1880~Many Illus Offered is a large, and scarce two volume set, titled A Biographical History of Eminent And Self-Made Men of the State Of Indiana with Many Portrait-Illustrations On Steel. Published in 1880 by Western Biographical Publishing Company, Cincinnati,Ohio. The books are leatherbound, with gilt on all sides of the text block. The pages aren't numbered, and the names and biographical sketches of the men within this book appear to be organized by Congressional districts, starting with the first district in the first volume,and progressing numerically. There appear to be 13 congressional district in Indiana at this time. I would estimate at least a 1000 pages in total. There is an index of all the men listed with biographical sketches, and their location within these volumes. Also, there is an Index of Portraits. A rough count (small print) indicates at least 230 individual portraits, as seen in the sample accompanying photos. Most of the gentleman listed, do not have portraits, hundreds of men are profiled. Volume 1 has a loose Title page. Volume 2 has three or four loose pages at it's beginning. The leather coverings are worn, but sound, as are the bindings. See photos. Each portrait is protected by a tissue page. Name of former owner written inside of both covers and on first free page. There are a few minor scattered foxing spots, but overall, the pages are clean.
