Description: 2 Decoration Day Antique Patriotic Postcards. PUBL: IAP, Artist:Clapsaddle This is a nice set of 2 PATRIOTIC antique postcards from the very early 1900s. They were published for DECORATION DAY (renamed MEMORIAL DAY) remembrance and they are colorful. They were published by International Art Publishing Co., a well respected and sought after publisher. These postcards are ARTIST SIGNED by Ellen Clapsaddle, a well known artist. Both postcards have GAR on them. GAR stands for "Grand Army of the Republic" and this was a fraternal organization composed of Union veterans of the Army, Navy and Marine Corps who served in the American Civil War. One postcard shows the American Eagle, and the other shows flowers and medals. Both postcards have traditional red, white, and blue colors. Please note that the eagle postcard has some wear at the bottom, but it does not impact the rest of the design. These type of Memorial Day (also called Decoration Day) antique postcards are sought after by collectors. They have nice colors and good messages. These are collector items because of their age, being Artist Signed by Clapsaddle, the embossed and gold trim, and their overall appeal to those collecting Patriotic antique postcards. The postcards are UNPOSTED (1) and POSTED (1) with a cancel date of 1909. They are EMBOSSED and have DIVIDED backs. These were "Printed in Germany" during the "Golden Age of Postcards" (1908-1915 era). These are BETTER POSTCARD and good for a collector. The postcards will keep their value! They are sleeved and in good condition. However, please expect some creases, cuts, stains, paper toning, and edge wear due to their age (over 100 years old!). The photos show the postcards and their backs. The postcards are shipped in a sturdy envelope. We only ship within the USA; we do not ship internationally.
