Clapsaddle This is a nice group of PATRIOTIC POSTCARDS that were published for Decoration Day (currently Memorial Day), as well as the Fourth of July and other patriotic events. These postcards are ANTIQUE from the early 1900s. The postcards are colorful and attractive. The postcards show the USA flag, one with flowers, and one takes the whole postcard area. Both postcards are nicely EMBOSSED and the one with the flowers is enhanced with GOLD trim in the design. These postcards are ARTIST SIGNED by Ellen Clapsaddle. The publisher of these antique postcards is the International Art Publishing Co. (IAP) who published in Germany during 1895-1915, during the “Golden Age of Postcards”. IAP is considered one of the best publishing companies for quality postcards of that era. One of their most famous artists was Ellen Clapsaddle who is highly popular with collectors. Her work with children is especially well regarded and sought after. IAP was a subsidiary of the Wolf & Co. who continued publishing postcards with Clapsaddle after IAP closed. The flag postcard has the Wolf logo on the back. These are collector items because of their age, the attractive colors and gold trim, and their desirability to Washington and Patriotic antique postcard collectors. The postcards are UNPOSTED (1) and POSTED (2) with cancel dates of 1917. The postcards were "PRINTED IN GERMANY" during the "Golden Age of Postcards" (1908-1915). They have divided backs. These are BETTER POSTCARD and good for a collector. The postcards will keep their value! They are sleeved and in good condition. However, please expect some creases, cuts, stains, paper toning, and edge wear due to their age (over 100 years old!). The photos show the postcards and their backs. The postcards are shipped in a sturdy envelope. We only ship within the USA; we do not ship internationally. USA shipping is with tracking, and we use eBay Standard Envelope mail when the value is under $20 and the weight is under 3 oz; and, we use USPS First Class mail when the value is over $20 or the weight is over 3 oz.
