Both of these still life paintings are striking & show the reason C.P. Ream became one of the Nation's leading & most prominent still life artists in the 19th Century. The fruit almost jumps off the canvas, particularly in his peach works. This Peach & Apple combo makes a perfect decor enhancer for any home or collection. You can search (Google) Antique Roadshow C.P. Ream for a fun YouTube watch & some general information on the artist. Born in Lancaster Ohio, he began his painting career in New York and Cincinnati before settling in Chicago in 1878. It was here that he became not only the leading still life artist in the area, but also gained national and international fame. There are volumes of information on this skilled artist online. Ream is most known for still life works like these, particularly for the peaches. He did however, do more complex works, many fetching well above $15,000, but the small to medium still life paintings composed most of his life's work. His paintings were exhibited throughout the US, Paris, London and beyond. Today, many of his paintings still reside in major private collections, museums and are highly sought after by collectors in the US and beyond. Many of his works similar to these have singularly brought $5,000-$7,000 or more at auction, we are offering the pair at a fraction of those prices. But don't let low price full you, they are as lovely as pictured! These paintings were highly cherished and held by a prominent private collector and arts supporter and displayed as show pieces in her smoke free home for many decades. That collector obtained the works from a Fine Art Gallery in Atlanta in 1990. The information on paintings is shown in pictures. The apple still life is signed on the lower right and the peach work has no visible signature on surface, but possibly could be under framing. Both are noted by gallery as C.P. Ream paintings and it is obvious from the work that they are indeed such. We are not sure if they are on a board set canvas or board itself, but both are solid surface. Overall, the paintings are in exceptional condition as seen in pictures. We took pictures in various lighting conditions for your consideration. You can use the zoom feature if you need to see more. There are no noted stains, scratches or other defects we can discern. We do not know the exact age of the items. They appear to have been kept in pristine, protected environmental conditions since they were painted. We personally measured the frames, but took gallery measurements as to canvas or board size, as 1/4" to 1/2" is under framing. Due to the value of the paintings, shipping will be done through UPS for insurance purposes as FedEx no longer insures over $1,000 on artwork. We have to ship directly from UPS to fully insure, but that is not a problem. We pack with extreme care. We also offer free local pick up as an option. If you are close to Indianapolis we will do all we can to assist with free delivery up to a reasonable distance (up to 60 miles from Indy). Let us know if you want to use local pick up as we can hold item for a reasonable time for you. For US buyers, you can anticipate shipping in the $70-$100 range with UPS Ground Delivery. Item will be fully insured and a signature required, so plan accordingly. Please look over our store for more noted artist's works. We try to focus on high display quality items & decor enhancers. Please ask any questions you may have before buying. Please Read: See our Feedback & Buy with confidence. We ship with extreme care and all items are fully insured! We often take from 30-60+ minutes packing more delicate & odd sized items to make sure your treasure is protected. We also photograph most items above $100 while packing in case a shipper were to ever damage an item (only one time in over 2,000 US shipped sales). For this reason, if an item is ever damaged, it will be the Buyer's responsibility to file a claim with the shipping service and we can provide photos from packing to assist Buyers. The process is not difficult, but the timing of such does not allow adequate time for the item to be returned to us and then for us to proceed with a claim (chain of custody questions can arise as well on returned items due to double shipping and handling so it is just easier for Buyers). So again, as noted in listing, we do not offer returns. Sales tax is charged according to your state or country's regulations. Of course, there is free local pick up and we can meet to assist if you are near Indianapolis or driving through. We do this often.
