Description: 19th C. French Etching After ALEXANDRE PROTAIS - LA GARDE DU DRAPEAU Flag Guard Engraved by Edmond Yon after the 1876 painting by Protais, commemorating the surrender at Metz (I believe). I am guessing that this was published in the 1880s as part of a portfolio by the firm A. Lévy at the Librairie Centrale des Beaux-Arts, 13 rue Lafayette, Paris. Image size is 8.8 x 12.1 cm, plate margins are 10.4 x 14.6 cm, sheet size is 22 x 26 cm. Has been hinged onto foam backing, with window mat on top.
